Frequently asked questions

Do you offer pick-up and drop-off for driving lessons in Parklands?

Yes, we absolutely do. We understand that getting to and from your driving lessons can be tricky if you don't have your licence yet. That’s why our Parklands driving instructors offer a convenient door-to-door service right across Parklands and the surrounding suburbs.

Whether you need to be picked up from your home, your workplace, or even after school at the local high school in Parklands, we can accommodate your schedule. Just let us know your preferred pick-up and drop-off locations when you book, and we’ll make sure your lesson time is maximised from the moment you step into the car.

Are the roads in Parklands good for beginner learners?

Absolutely, the coastal and residential streets of Parklands are actually fantastic for those just starting out. The quieter suburban roads provide a low-pressure environment where beginners can practice the fundamentals of steering, braking, and lane positioning without the stress of heavy traffic behind them.

Once you build up your confidence on these local streets, we can easily transition to slightly busier areas. We often use the roundabouts and gentle hills in Parklands to practice smooth gear changes or automatic braking control before heading into the bustling centre of Mandurah for more advanced traffic scenarios.

Can we practice the actual PDA test routes if I live in Parklands?

Yes, we certainly can. If your lessons originate in Parklands, we are perfectly positioned to practice the very routes that the Department of Transport assessors use during your Practical Driving Assessment. We know exactly what the examiners are looking for and which intersections tend to trip up nervous students.

While we always focus on teaching you how to drive safely anywhere, spending time navigating the specific traffic lights, school zones, and merging lanes between Parklands and the DOT gives you a massive home-ground advantage. By test day, those local roads will feel like second nature.

How long does a typical driving lesson in Parklands go for?

Our standard driving lessons run for a full 60 minutes. We have found this is the perfect amount of time for students in Parklands to warm up, absorb new techniques, and practice them repeatedly without experiencing driver fatigue or losing concentration.

During that hour, you get full, undivided attention from your instructor. Because we offer a local service, your 60 minutes starts the moment you get behind the wheel in Parklands, ensuring you aren't wasting your valuable paid lesson time just travelling to a practice location.

Do you teach reverse parallel parking in Parklands?

We absolutely do. Reverse parallel parking is a crucial skill for the PDA and everyday driving, and the quiet residential streets of Parklands provide the ideal setting to learn it. We can break down the manoeuvre step-by-step without the pressure of impatient drivers waiting behind you.

Once you have mastered the angles and reference points on a quiet street, we can move to busier areas to test your new skills. There are plenty of great spots around the local parks and foreshore areas in Parklands where we can practice parking between actual cars, ensuring you are completely test-ready.

I work full-time in Parklands; do you offer weekend or evening lessons?

We certainly do. We know that many of our students juggle full-time work, apprenticeships, or school commitments throughout the week. To make learning as accessible as possible, our instructors are available for evening and weekend lessons throughout Parklands and the wider Peel region.

Evening lessons are also a fantastic opportunity to log your mandatory nighttime driving hours. Navigating the darker streets of Parklands helps you build essential skills in using headlights correctly, dealing with glare, and spotting hazards with limited visibility, which makes you a much safer driver overall.

Can I switch from manual to automatic lessons while living in Parklands?

You definitely can. We understand that sometimes students start in a manual car and realise they would prefer the simplicity of an automatic. If you are taking lessons in Parklands, you can easily swap between our manual and automatic vehicles depending on what you feel most comfortable with.

We don't charge any hidden fees for changing your mind, and your hourly rate remains exactly the same. Our goal is to get you licensed and driving safely around Parklands, so we are more than happy to adjust our teaching approach and vehicle to suit your personal learning style at any point in your journey.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I highly recommend this driving school, especially Dave. He is an excellent instructor who is patient, professional, and very knowledgeable. What really stood out to me was how clearly Dave explains everything. He takes the time to explain not just what to do, but why you need to do it, which makes learning much easier and builds confidence behind the wheel. I only needed one lesson with Dave before successfully getting my licence! That says a lot about his teaching style and experience. If you’re looking for a driving instructor who genuinely knows what he’s doing and wants you to succeed, I highly recommend Dave and this driving school. You won’t regret it! 🚗👏

can’t recommend Dave at Phoenix Driving Academ highly enough. He recently gave my 90-year-old mum a private driving lesson to help prepare her for her driving reassessment and hopefully get her licence back. Dave was incredibly encouraging, patient and supportive. He helped Mum refresh her driving skills, brought her up to date with changes to the road rules, and taught her some really valuable techniques around defensive and safe driving. Just as importantly, he helped rebuild her confidence behind the wheel, which she badly needed after losing her licence. He treated her with kindness and respect throughout and made what could have been quite a stressful experience feel really positive. A genuinely lovely fellow and an excellent driving instructor. I would highly recommend Dave, particularly for older drivers who may need some extra support, confidence and preparation for a driving reassessment.
